The Theme

If you were to close your eyes and listen, listen with as much effort as you can, you might actually hear the hush of the Earth spinning and hurtling, pelting round and round and round the violent, thrashing sun, itself also churning and twisting, you might hear someone spinning a pendant on a necklace, a boy circling a conker on a string, an engine turning-an-axle-turning-a-wheel, a ball having just been batted, a dog wagging its tail, a sneeze propelling germs, a flower coughing its spores, the hefty metallic roll of a beer barrel, a drill flaking away the brick of a wall, a door-handle being impatiently tried, the clattering fuss of finding the right key, perhaps your clock has a ticking second-hand, maybe you live near a round-about, or one of these days you might actually take up into your arms that laundry pile that has started spilling from the top of the basket onto the floor and down the steps.

Circles are only a small part of motion, and the Earth is clothed in the thickest fabric ever, weaved from the paths of activities and expressions in motion transported in lines like threads, linking location to location, overlapping, traversing, dodging, knotting. And if this single garment, enwrapping us all, were to have pockets, then some of the contents of those pockets would be the mind’s own paths of reflections on this beautiful mayhem of movement, a kind of fluff of consciousness come about by everyday stir and friction.

Reviews:
"A hugely stimulating exhibition, full of colour and energy, which proves there is a strong and varied underground art scene performing in exciting locations"
Liza Harrington – Producer, Carlton Television

"Lost Property came out with all guns blazing. An all singing, all dancing show – an intravenous shot of passion into art’s fleshy arse"
Nick Hackworth, Art Critic – Evening Standard
